RE:  Grant Opportunity

            The Amherst Club is pleased to announce our major 2012 fundraising event, called Love Notes, which raises money for The Amherst Club to give away to local social service organizations.  We would be happy to receive a grant application from you which, if granted, would be funded by proceeds from the Love Notes event to be held next February, 2012 in Buckley Recital Hall at Amherst College.  Our goal this year is to raise $15,000 for local charities, but the actual amount cannot be determined until after the event.  Over the past several years, individual awards have ranged from $750 to $2,430 for specific projects that assist people to improve their lives.      

            If you would like The Amherst Club’s Allocations Committee to consider a grant proposal from your agency, please submit the following information on or before Friday, October 28, 2011 to the address in the last sentence of this letter:

1.      A completed Grant Application Form;

2.     A one-page description of the project you are proposing.

Criteria:

1.     The program must be based in the greater Amherst area and serve our local community;

2.     The grant must significantly contribute to the funding of one specific project within your organization;

3.     Applications for general operations will not be considered.

Parallel Criteria:  All projects should…

1.      … meet basic human needs;

2.      … help people to help themselves;

     3.      … help to improve the greater Amherst community.

The Committee routinely receives requests for more funding than the amount available.  We anticipate, therefore, that not all requests can be funded or funded up to the amount requested.    We can assure you, however, that each application will be given careful consideration. 

Timetable:  October 28, 2011: Applications due; late November: notification of status of request and tentative award amount, if any; February, 2012: Love Notes Event; late March: presentation of awards at a regular Tuesday lunch meeting, date TBA.
