Hind Mari Director of Women of Color Leadership Network, U MASS Center for Women & Community. President Ellen Kosmer called the meeting of the Amherst Club to order at noon on Tuesday, June 10th, 2014, and welcomed us all. We welcomed back Cynthia Brubaker whom we had not seen for a while. Ellen reminded members to patronize the Spirit Haus which so generously donates a bottle of wine to the Club every week. Snapshot: Susie Lowenstein shared fond memories of her high school summer working on a farm as a member of the Victory Bond Cadet Corps, one of the small number of girls who volunteered for this work, where she learned to drive not only a car but a tractor and earned the magnificent sum of $21 per month! Speaker: Andrea Battle introduced our speaker this week, Hind Mari, Director of the Women of Color Leadership Network at the UMass Center for Women and Community (formerly the Everywoman Center). Hind described some of the free services offered at the Center for numerous groups and individuals in need, ranging from victims of abuse to people with mental or physical issues, including cancer survivors, as well as workshops promoting healthy living by teaching teens and adults how to develop non-violent non-abusive relationships. Raffle: Dee Waterman won the wine and Paul Bacon the $10. Announcements: Tag sale at Nancy Gregg’s this Saturday 14th, 151 Rolling Ridge Road, 8:30-1. Nancy and Phyllis Lehrer will have a large assortment of household items, small appliances, DVDs, and books for all!
