The Amherst Club February 23, 2010 Notes
February has been Art Month at The Amherst Club, and it ended in splendid fashion with a presentation by Loretta Yarlow, who arrived in 2005 to be Director of the University Gallery at UMass. Slides provided a sampling of the Gallery's permanent collection and a brief video featured students and graduates who spoke glowingly of their experience at the Gallery. It was impressive to see how many graduates obtained positions at prestigious museums and galleries throughout the country.
Much of the collection may be visited by appointment and also viewed on the Gallery's web site at www.umass.edu/fac/universitygallery. The gallery is open 11-4:30 Tuesdays through Fridays, 2-5 on weekends, and for special events in the evening. Accompanying Loretta Yarlow was Angel Harrell, the collection co-ordinator.
A new star was born when Lorraine Desroshiers acted as auctioneer (and occasionally outbid others) for remaining wine from Love Notes. On March 7, the traditional Love Notes debriefing potluck will be held at Phyllis Lehrer's home at 11:30 am. All members are welcome, but please no desserts. Any remaining monies from Love Notes sales should be given to Jim Scott PDQ.
The League of Women Voters will present a program on the Amherst budget situation tomorrow night (February 24th) in the Large Meeting Room in the Jones Library basement.
Joining us today was Miriam Dayton's daughter.
